Fatality Ch. 4 by !greamath:icongreamath:

                                                          Chapter 4
(…you have a lot of time on your hands, right?)
When Amy woke up the next morning, she felt better, which was a relief to her.  She got on her sore feet, tested her walking, and walked right out the door of the room.  A lady looked up at her.  “Feeling better?”  Something hit Amy’s mind suddenly, and she reflexively put a hand on her forehead.  The woman, a hedgehog in a black dress and sparkling white hair, slightly frowned.  “Are you okay?  Should I…?”  Amy interrupted, “No, no, I’m okay.  Just… I don’t know.”  She power walked out the door, while the woman continued to slightly frown.

Sonic woke from his dream.  He expected to see his usual ceiling, but instead he saw the sun rising in his face.  Sonic quickly got up and brushed the dirt on his back.  He glanced at the junkyard and memories of last night rushed back to him.  The burial, the girl, the explosion, the sadness.

Tails found himself on a creek bank. "What is this place?" he thought. He saw there were lots of kids playing with each other, seeing who could skip more times with rocks than the others. They all were laughing and seemingly were having a good time. Tails took a stroll down the bank and basically saw the same thing everywhere. "Why am I here?" he thought after walking for several minutes. Then he saw someone coming toward him. "Cosmo!" he yelled, and ran toward her. They hugged each other for a full minute, and then Tails took a look at her. "You look beautiful," he told her in awe. Cosmo smiled. "Thanks, Tails,” she said, and then looked at Tails’s bruises and scars.  “You're not bad either.”  Tails laughed along with her, and for a few seconds they stood there in silence, smiling at each other. Tails broke the silence, asking, "Where am I?" Cosmo smiled wider. "Haven’t noticed yet?  It can only be one place.  It’s heaven, Tailsie Boy." It took a moment after Cosmo said that for it to sink in.  He was shocked for a moment, but then he frowned. "But I didn't think heaven was like this."
"Heaven is different for everyone, Miles." Cosmo responded. "Some people are in the battlefield after death, and others are in the tropics. Your heaven is where your heart is.  Your fox colony is right over there."  She pointed to the left, where there were foxes in the distance.  Tails sniffed, then cried.  “M-Ma…”  Memories of the fatal accident came to him.  “I-I can see Ma again?”  Cosmo nodded, and it seemed like rain fell from his eyes.  “Ma…” Tails made out.  “I’m home… Ma.”  Tails crumpled to the ground, and it took a while for him to recover.  Tails then wiped the tears from his eyes and was surprised Cosmo was still there, still smiling.  Tails grinned widely. "I have a question, though. Before here, I remember… hands… trying to take me away into darkness.  What… who were they?”  Cosmo grinned once more. "I cannot tell you."  Cosmo then started walking away.  Tails immediately yelled, "Cosmo!  Where are you going?" but soon Cosmo had vanished.  Tails screamed in anguish, but it was all vain.  Soon the whole setting disappeared, and Tails was back in a world of white.

Amy drove down Main Street.  She pondered thoughts in her mind.  Who was that man?  Why did he choose me?  A stop light up ahead showed red.  She slowed to a stop and got out her brush and mirror while keeping her eye on the light.  She started to brush out tangles when she noticed a scar on her forehead.  She brushed her finger over it and got closer to the mirror to see it better.  It seemed like any old scar, but this one, this one seemed to be in some kind of shape, made a bit too perfectly.  It had to be a symbol of some kind...
A car behind her honked and she heard distant yelling.  She peered at the stop light, which was now green, and quickly hit the gas.

Sonic didn’t feel like moving from the dirt at all, but he’d gotten tired of hearing his stomach rumble and decided to go down to the Olive Café.  Maybe some food can get him off my mind, he thought.  He ran down to the café and opened the door.  Cream, who was at the register, spotted him and smiled.  Amy was nowhere in sight.  There must have been a look of concern on Sonic’s face, because Cream said, “Amy’s gone to the hospital because some bad man came in and tried to shoot her.  She should be back any time now.”  Sonic looked down.  “You like her, don’t you?” Cream grinned her naïve grin.  Sonic jolted up and protested, “No, no, just…” Sonic hesitated.  “I’m not really wanting to talk right now.”  Cream’s grin faded into a concerned expression.  “I’m sorry.”  “It’s OK,” Sonic replied, not wanting to let the girl down.  Sonic didn’t like Amy, true, but he didn’t want to admit that he had feelings for her.  “What’s today’s special?”

Amy walked in the restaurant and saw Sonic at the register.  She had to use everything she had to keep from sprinting toward him.  Sonic turned around and smiled.  She walked as fast as she could over to Sonic and put her arm around him.  He didn’t resist, slightly unusual, but she didn’t care.  She was glad to be away from the freaky hospital…
Her mind went back to the white hedgehog.  Who was she?  And why did her mind react in such a way?  She tried to stop thinking about it while she guided Sonic to a seat.  Cream came over to the table and asked, “Would you like to get something, Amy?” while she was smiling as if she didn’t have a care in the world.  Amy shook her head.  “No, thanks,” she replied subconsciously while she concentrated on Sonic.  He seemed… different.  She couldn’t exactly put her finger on it, but he didn’t seem the same.  He wasn’t talking much at all, and he just kept his head down.  When Cream came out with his order, he didn’t touch it for a while.  Amy inched her hand on his, and he only stared at it.  “Something wrong, Sonic?”  He hesitated, and then shook his head.  “N-No, everything’s fine.”  Amy tugged on the hand.  “C’mon, Sonic.  You’re not telling me something.”  There was a long silence.  “It’s just…” Sonic began.  Amy leaned toward Sonic.  “What is it, hun?”  She’d never dared said that to his face.  She had been using it with her friends, and they knew exactly who she was talking about.  But she’d never said it to Sonic.  Sonic, again, showed no resistance.  Suddenly, his head jerked up.  “I could have stopped it!” he blurted.  He stood up and dashed out the door.  As the doors swung to a stop, Amy just stayed in her same position, blinking, still shocked about the sudden leave.  She then turned her head to the cash register where Cream just stood there staring at her with her head cocked.  Amy stood up.  “Cream… It’s OK.  Really.”  She walked into the kitchen while Cream watched her for a moment, then turned to the next customer and asked, “Can I h—?”  That’s all she could make out before she was hit with a punch and passed out.

Young Amy stood with wide eyes while her mother put on her dress.  “Mommy, I’m scared.  What if I don’t make any new friends?”
“You will, Amy, honey.  You’ll make a lot of new friends in this new neighborhood.”  Amy’s mother fumbled with a strap.  “Besides, nobody in the second grade will hurt you.”  Oh, how Amy wished that she could be assured of that.  She clung to her mother.  “I don’t know, Mommy.”
“You’ll be OK, Amy,” her mother said, getting a bit aggravated.  She finally pried Amy off and put her in the back seat.  It was a short drive to school, only 5 minutes.  To Amy it felt like an eternity.  However, soon they were at the door of the school.  The principal indicated her classroom, and she murmured thanks to him as she walked to the room which was surely full of death.  She slowly turned open the doorknob and noticed that there was no one in there.  A grown-up was writing something on a chalkboard and didn’t seem to notice her.  Amy must have been early.  She crept around the classroom, looking for any blood or corpses.  She sighed when she found none, which must have alerted the grown-up, because she screamed.  Amy jumped back and watched the grown-up turn around.  When she saw Amy, she smiled.  “Oh, hi.  I didn’t notice you.  What’s your name?”  She smiled, and Amy looked for any evil in her smile.  When she couldn’t find any, she reluctantly said her name.  “Nice to meet you, Amy!” said the grown-up as she extended her hand.  Amy finally assumed that this was a safe person and shook the grown-up’s hand.  “I’m the teacher, Mrs. Swindle,” she told Amy.  Amy smiled and asked, “Is it OK if I sit right here?”  She pointed to a seat near the front of the classroom.  The teacher grinned.  “Of course!  I would be delighted!”  Amy set her things on the desk and sorted out everything nicely.  A group of boys barged in the door.  When they saw Amy, they momentarily stared at her.  One whistled.  They then put their unorganized backpacks on desks beside each other in the back of the classroom and started blabbing loudly.  Amy ignored them and started writing down tabs on her binder for all of her classes.  The rest of the class filed in within the next 10 minutes.  When Mrs. Swindle was assured everyone was in the class, she clapped her hands.  “Hello, everybody!  My name is Mrs. Swindle and I will be your teacher.  This year will be such an exciting year!”  There were a few groans in the classroom, none of which came from Amy.  A spitball came from the back of the classroom and hit a boy with glasses, which were qualified “geeks,” they said.  The teacher ignored it.  “Well, let’s get this year started with a bang!”  Mrs. Swindle clapped her hands really hard to emphasize.  “When I point to you, I want you to tell me your name and something… interesting about you.”  She pointed her finger first at a girl in the first row.  She bounded up and said, “Penelope York, and I like collecting bugs.”  She quickly sat back down, and a few snickers were heard in the back of the classroom.  Mrs. Swindle then pointed to a boy right next to Penelope.  He stood up and said, “Kiephen Toby, and girls STINK!”  He held his nose and exclaimed, “EWWWWWW!”  He plopped down and high-fived someone behind him.  The teacher frowned, but she went on.  Next, she pointed at Amy.  Amy stood up in an orderly fashion and said at a medium tone, “Amy Rose, and I just moved here.”  She then sat down slowly so she wouldn’t wrinkle her dress.  A few of the guys that agreed with Kiephen whispered, “Newbie,” to themselves, and there were more whistles.  The class erupted in laughter.  The teacher was quick to react.  “Now, class, settle down.  I don’t want to send any of you to the principal on the first day of school.”  The class immediately quieted down, as it did any time when the cursed word was said.  Everyone thought that the principal was a big, ferocious monster and devoured any kid that got in trouble.  Nobody dared do anything wrong when that word was mentioned.  The teacher smiled again and pointed at the next person.

The bell rang for recess, and everyone, especially the boys in the back, raced for the door.  Amy waited to be the last one so her dress wouldn’t be damaged.  When she went outside, all she intended to do was walk.  She strolled around watching people playing kickball.  She sighed, but in a happy way.  She was used to being alone.  She enjoyed reading at recess.  Amy looked for a bench, and when she found one, started for it.  When she was almost there, a big guy blocked her path.  “I’m sorry, I think you’re in my space!”  Amy just looked up at him, stunned.  He was a burly guy that didn’t look like he belonged in the second grade, but didn’t look like a grown-up either.  He had bad breath and popsicle-colored teeth.  He had a white, ragged T-shirt on that declared, “No Fear.”  Amy walked to the right of the big guy, but the boy simply sidestepped to again block her path.  Amy then tried the left, with no avail.  Amy started to get aggravated with this bully, and obviously it showed on her face, because the bully guffawed right in her face, releasing a blob of bad breath.  Amy didn’t back off.  “Mister, you’re in my way.  Would you please move?”  The bully seemed shocked with there being an actual reply, but soon an evil grin was placed on his face as he laughed again.  “Fat chance, sucker!”  A crowd started gathering around them.  Amy remembered this from her old school, they did this when there was about to be a fight.  She’d seen plenty of these, but never had actually been in one.  A small chant rose from the crowd.  Fight, fight, fight, fight.  The chant rose to a roar, and Amy blushed, embarrassed.  She didn’t want to fight this monster.  Had her mommy been wrong?  Amy stepped slowly away from the bully, who matched every single step of hers.  The bully cracked his knuckles, which frightened Amy.  She looked for a crack in the crowd, but didn’t find one.  She wanted to cry, but she remained tough.  If she had to fight this weirdo, she would.  A blue streak came out of nowhere and caught her.  Amy started going at an extreme speed.  The wind forced her eyes closed.  In a few seconds, it was over.  Nothing happened.  Amy kept her eyes closed in case it would happen again.  After about a minute, she reluctantly opened them.  In front of her was a blue hedgehog.  He was grinning.  “Did I scare ya?”  He looked a bit older than her, maybe in the 4th grade, with his backpack on his shoulders.  Amy nodded.  “I’m fine, thank you.”  There was a short silence.  “You know,” Sonic started, “You’re pretty.”  Amy looked up and blushed.  Sonic grinned wider.  Another silence.  “Ya ready to go back?” Sonic asked.  Amy nodded subconsciously, and Sonic picked her up and sped back.  A hedgehog with sparkling white hair came out of the bushes near them and said, “Humph!  Boyfriend stealer!”
